1. Open battery case, Gently push the card as indicated until the card reaches the bottom of the slot.
2. The power button is located under the LCD moniter on the main console.
3. The record button is directly below the zoom lever.
4. The zoom is below the shutter button and above the record button. Move it up to zoom in, move it down to zoom out.
5. To playback recordings, press the MODE button and use the joystick to select the My Works choice. Or you can simply press the Play/Pause button on the side of the LCD monitor.
6. To get to the menu, press the menu button.
7. In the menu, you can set the video resolution, turn NightShot on or off, and also set or change the White Balance for where your camera is located.

Shots Definitions
A wide shot is sometimes called establishing shots.
wide shot- Give the overall feel for the setting and surroundings. They establish where the story is taking place.

tight shot - Gives lots of detail that you cannot get in any other shots. Sometimes called a close-up.

Damage to the Washington Monument
1. The topic is the situation where, after an earthquake and hurricane hitting close to Washington DC, there are cracks in the Washington monument that have to be fixed before the attraction opens back up to the public.
2. The angle is looking at the situation from the tourist/engineer's view. The article states the damage and how long it will take to repair it.
3. Criteria: Unusualness, Prominence, Timeliness
4. In the process of making this a broadcasted piece would mean interviewing the people working on the site and disappointed tourists that did not get to go into the monument because of the damages. Some nice shots for the piece would be a wide view of the area, tourists looking onto the site and workers fixing the monument.

The Boys of Winter
1. Bob Dotson does his "stand-up" sitting down on the bleachers with the crowd.
2. Dotson says that usually the best place for the reporter to be on camera is in the middle of the story. This is because it gives the viewer information that they can't visualize but can infer from the tapes before the stand up and afterwards.
3. There should be 3-5 main points in the middle, which you can support visually throughout the story.
4. The main points of this story are: The men on this team maybe be old, but they can play, Using exercise and determination, George Bakewell has stayed alive and healthy, and finally, Love can be found anywhere, whether it be on the baseball field or a retirement home.

Pumpkin Shortages
With Halloween just around the corner, many families are dusting off their scare crows and getting their designs ready for the perfect pumpkin face to sit on their doorstep. But, unfortunately, some Americans cannot enjoy pumpkin pie this year because the large pumpkin shortage in Northeastern United States. You can thank Hurricane Irene and the storm filled summer for leaving your home without the sweet smell of pumpkins this fall. I recommend you go out and buy your pumpkins now before they're all gone!

Ruby Bridges
Ruby Bridges, born in Mississippi in 1954, was one of the most groundbreaking children to walk the halls of her elementary school. She was the first black child to attend Frantz Elementary School, before that time it was an all white school. On her first day, many parents pulled their children out of school in protest of the new law that integrated the elementary.
